Abstract

The wavelength dependence of the absorption coefficient of molecular oxygen has been measured on the short-wavelength side of the hydrogen Lyman-alpha line at 1215.67 Å. The pressure dependence of the absorption coefficient has also been measured from 100 to 760 torr at 1215.67 and 1213.7 Å. These have been measured on a one-centimeter path length of oxygen utilizing ultraviolet emission from a crossed-beam atomic-collision apparatus. The pressure dependence at 1215.67 Å reported here agrees well with previously published data. However, both the wavelength dependence at 760 torr and the pressure dependence at 1213.7 Å display marked discrepancies from extrapolations of earlier data.
