Multilevel-Grain Model for Light-Recording Media

Abstract

Recording media whose grains have multiple levels of transmittance have been studied and compared with recording media whose grains are of the on–off type. In particular, it is found that the granularity, which is defined as a quantity proportional to the measured standard deviation of transmittance as an aperture of area A scans the sample, is inherently lower in the multilevel grain model than in the on–off grain model.
