Spectral Modulation of Light from a Pair of Pseudothermal Sources

Abstract

A pair of approximately cross-spectrally pure pseudothermal sources were constructed using a gas laser and a moving etched-metal surface. An effective time delay of one source relative to the other was introduced by the manner in which the surface was moved. The combination of the light signals from these sources was analyzed by an audio-spectrum analyzer. The spectral modulation predicted for cross-spectrally pure sources with large relative time delays was observed.
