Foveal Sensitivity for a Protanope in Relation to Stiles’ “Blue” and “Green” Mechanisms

Abstract

The absolute threshold sensitivity for a protanopic fovea has been determined. The sensitivity curve gives a good fit with Stiles’s π4 curve in the longer wavelengths region, as expected. Results are compared with those of Graham and Hsia, and of Boynton et al., and the relations discussed. Three t.v.i. curves have also been obtained for the protanope, who does not seem to have a π2 branch. Moreover, the π1 branch is rather long, before π3 takes over.
