Efficiencies of Gold and Platinum Gratings in the Vacuum Ultraviolet

Abstract

Efficiencies have been measured for two platinum-coated original concave gratings, four platinized replicas from the originals, and two original concave gratings ruled in gold. The measurements were made at near normal incidence in the 500- to 1400-Å wavelength region. Coated gratings have been compared with uncoated gratings and platinized mirrors. The measurements emphasize the importance of the quality of the individual rulings in addition to the type of coating, in the ultimate determination of the distribution of grating efficiency with wavelength.
