Optical and Motor Factors in the Formation of the Retinal Image

Abstract

Recent work on eye movement, pupil and accommodation responses is reviewed with emphasis on the relevance of the results to retinal-image formation. Diffraction, chromatic and spherical aberration, and transmission characteristics of the eye, and also new findings concerning the light distribution in the image in the intact human eye are discussed. An introduction is given to the Fourier approach to the analysis of the preformance of the eye and visual system.
