By means of theoretical energy expressions for the p4f configuration in pair-coupling 16 levels found in Cl i by Corliss and by Humphreys and Paul have been identified as (3P)4f, 5f, and 6f levels. Additional pairs of levels that make the (3P)4f and 5f configurations complete have been found. The positions of the remaining (3P)6f pairs are accurately predicted. The coupling is found to be a pronounced pair coupling, and the levels are very hydrogenlike. From the (3P)nf series a new value for the 3p4 3P2 ionization limit has been derived, viz., 104 591 cm−1 above the ground level

Nondiagonal matrix elements neglected.
The procedure used in the calculations implies that for this pair the calculated and observed energies are identical.
