Further Analysis of the “Lower” Test for High-Speed Parabolic Mirrors

Abstract

The analysis presented in a previous paper 1 on the Lower test is extended to show that the parabolic correction existing on a mirror figured to this test is a function only of observation distance and not of mirror relative aperture. Graphs are presented to show this relationship.

It is suggested by the author that the Lower test may be of value in rough figuring of certain elliptical mirrors since, to third-order approximation, an under-corrected parabola is identical to an ellipse.
