Experimental Study of the Diffraction Patterns Produced by Mirrors with Imperfect Surfaces

Abstract

The diffraction patterns produced by mirrors that are not flat have been observed at wavelengths 0.546 μ and 2.05 μ, by means of an Ebert spectrometer optical arrangement with the imperfect mirrors in the place of the grating. It is shown that they have satellites caused by the periodic or random errors, much like Rowland ghosts of gratings. The observed diffraction intensity curves are compared with calculated curves.
