Abstract

An expression is developed for the radiance of the sphere wall as a function of the incident flux F0, the reflectance R, and the ratio α of the remaining sphere-wall area to the total area of the sphere. The theory holds for the limiting cases α→1 and α→0. Excellent agreement was found by experiment among several determinations of absolute reflectance for widely different values of α.
