Abstract

By using the white light source, in an optical arrangement in which two kinds of birefringent plates are put between the crossed nicols, the phase retardation caused in the system changes in proportion to δ×sin2θ, in which δ and θ mean the retardation smaller than about 70 mμ and the rotating angle of the second birefringent plate, respectively.
