Abstract

The factors governing the performance of infrared spectrometers are discussed, and it is shown that the use of multiple monochromators of the type described in the preceding paper provides one of the best methods of obtaining high resolution infrared spectra. The conversion of a small prism infrared spectrometer to a double monochromator is described. The performance of the instrument is illustrated by reproductions of typical spectra, and it is shown that the resolution approaches that of the best grating instruments. Scattered radiation is so small as to be negligible.
