Emission spectra are shown for five pigments whose fluorescent colors are blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. These are compared to reflectance spectra of paints tinted to approximate, in daylight, the fluorescent colors of the five pigments and to a series of standard artist’s colors. The paper attempts to bring up to date practical information on the production of brightness with these phosphors. Following the general lines of development used by Kraehenbuehl and Chanon, data are given showing the relation between ultraviolet intensity and fluorescent brightness and between the latter and the masking effect of ambient illumination. The efficiency of light production from fluorescence excited by different types of commercial sources of near ultraviolet is described.

100-watt EH-4 and 250-watt AH-5 lamp with roundel, UV filters.

Based on total arc watts for 100-watt EH-4 lamp. The double values represent the difference due to the range in density of the roundel filters supplied for the lamps. The ultraviolet energies for the low and high values are 25 and 80 microwatts per square inch. Values for the 250-watt AH-5 with roundel glass filter are about 75 percent of the higher values for the 100-watt lamp.
Since the efficiency of a fluorescent lamp varies with its length, these values will be different for lamps of different wattage or construction.
