A New Spectrophotometer Employing a Glass Fery Prism

Abstract

The Fery prism, first described in 1910, has been used in relatively few applications, all of these apparently being in spectrographs. The present paper describes the application of a borosilicate crown glass Fery prism as the dispersive element in a monochromator covering the spectral range from 320 mµ to 1000 mµ. Performance characteristics of the prism are given. A new Beckman spectrophotometer employing the Fery prism is described along with its performance characteristics. A novel wave-length control mechanism and a new slit device are described.
