Photographic Spectral Sensitometry with a Biprism

Abstract

A method is described whereby spectral sensitometry is facilitated by the addition of a biprism to the optical train within a spectrograph. The modified instrument affords a spectrogram divided into three zones of relative intensities 12, 1, 12. In any spectral region, the characteristic curve of the emulsion can be determined from transmittance measurements on line images in all three zones. Although rather similar to the use of a step filter, the method has advantages over other techniques for homochromatic sensitometry.
