A Device to Facilitate the Reading of Spectrophotometric Curves

Abstract

A device which reduces eyestrain, caused by the many transverse and vertical movements of the eyes in the reading of spectrophotometric curves, is described. The spectrophotometric curve, the wave-length scale, and the reflectance scale are brought into controlled juxtaposition for reading. Means for magnifying the curve and related scales, setting the wave-length accurately and progressing quickly from point to point along the curve, are provided. The apparatus may be used with or without a wave-length correction and is applicable to either the selected or weighted ordinate method of reading. Its use is considerably less tiring than any other method tried and increases notably the speed of reading, particularly when there are several curves to a sheet.
