Abstract

A theory of retardation plate flickering is presented. The behavior of rotating plane of polarization spectrophotometers with dichroic samples is formulated. It is shown that polarized beam spectrophotometers modified by the addition of a thick retardation plate will duplicate the results of absorption measurements on dichroic samples obtained with unpolarized light.
