The Use of the Photographic Densitometer in Radiography

Abstract

The examination of radiographic negatives with a photographic densitometer has shown that it is possible to determine the size of a discontinuityin the material with considerable precision from the densitometer readings. A densitometer of the thermoelectric type was used and it is shown theoretically that the galvanometer deflections are connected by a definite relation which is independent of total thickness of the material. The minimum variation in thickness which can be detected by this method has been determined for some of the common metals.
