Abstract

A 4×112 Gbps/fiber VCSEL link was demonstrated using a co-packaged coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) optical module. Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) at 990 nm, 1015 nm, 1040 nm, 1065 nm, and 1090 nm achieved error-free transmission at 56 Gb/s PAM4 with 2-tap equalization. VCSEL link error-free transmission over a 100 m customized 1060 nm multimode fiber (MMF) was realized at 50 Gb/s. Using pre-distorted driving signals all five wavelengths achieved data rates of 112 Gb/s PAM4 with bit error rates (BERs) of about 10 $^{-6}$ . A complete co-packaged CWDM optical module can achieve a 2.668 Tb/s aggregated bandwidth by assembling four 1×6 VCSEL arrays using flip-chip bonding and solder reflow.
