End-to-End Time-Sensitive Optical Networking: Challenges and Solutions

Abstract

Time-sensitive applications, most notably, for 5G fronthauling and Industry 4.0, require deterministic (jitter-free) low-latency, highly reactive, and trustable networks, as opposed to today's best effort Internet. We review existing solutions, both established and at the research stage, and compare them for key next-generation 5G fronthauling and industrial requirements.
