Abstract

The robustness of laser diode-based optical chaos communications to system power losses has been experimentally studied. In-line optical amplification is shown to be effective in restoring the received optical power to enable successful message extraction at an authorized receiver. At the same time, eavesdropper alert can be achieved by measuring the cross-correlation coefficient.
