Abstract

In this paper, the so-called guided resonances found in photonic crystal slabs were also obtained theoretically in periodic dielectric waveguides. And the effectiveness of transmission and the loss of this system were studied. These guided resonance modes based on resonance transmission still possess good ability to carry energy through sharp bends, which will reduce the transmission loss of bends in periodic dielectric waveguides. Because of the band folding effect, the phase velocity of the guided mode is larger than the speed of light in the vacuum. These modes give us a Cerenkov-liked radiation pattern.
