Abstract

In the context of optical filters for wavelength division multiplexing systems, the randomly sampled apodization is introduced to apodize the spectral response of a Bragg grating (BG). By conveniently sampling the refractive-index modulation along the propagation direction, it is possible to obtain a flat-band behavior around the filter central wavelength and high-sidelobe suppression. The proposed approach can be advantageous when BGs are obtained in optical waveguides through physical corrugation.
