Abstract

Different color output devices generally possess different color gamut. The visual description of color gamut on an output device is very significant for understanding the performance of the equipment and predicting color image output effect. Based on the layer cutting method on the lightness axes’ chromaticity coordinate, this paper provides a new way to obtain the scattered point cloud of layer, extract boundary sample points of scattered point cloud, and achieve the device gamut boundary curve on slice with the use of piecewise quadratic B-spline curves. All boundary curves of the same device can be shown in the same coordinate system with this method, and ultimately the entire color gamut visualization result of the output device can be achieved. This method provides a new idea on the gamut visualization parametric modeling for different color output devices, and also provides a good way for the non-distorted evaluating system of the color transferring from the color display device to the color output device.
