Two of China's most high-profile technology companies, Huawei and China Telecom Sichuan, recently launched the first commercial 4K ultra-HD iTV network service in the country, LightReading.com reports. This comes in conjunction with a 4K ultra-HD intelligent smart set top box (STB).
This recent release makes China Telecom Sichuan the first telecommunications company in China to use 4K STBs for carrying and providing video services to customers. China Telecom Sichuan and Huawei first entered into a partnership in order to develop IP video services; they achieved this by linking fiber broadband to 4K ultra-HD video capabilities and network construction.
The new iTV network service is expected to provide a higher quality of image, as a 4K STB provides clearer pictures than an HD STB; a more streamlined 4K video experience, as 4K encoding and platforming mean iTV services can be enjoyed without interruption; and a full-guarantee of super network coverage thanks to 4K network bearer solution supports incorporating display and end-to-end video quality, as well as accurate fault positioning and speedy resolution if faults occur.
The two companies have worked hard to ensure a better user experience and have deployed leading technologies to optimize the code stream, coding quality, delay and algorithm complexity, the article notes. Due to the increased complexity of the processing technology behind 4K ultra-HD, Internet Protocol TV and CDN platforms have been implemented in order to keep up with the additional processing power. This will encourage intelligent acceleration, scheduling and distribution of 4K services.
Metropolitan and backbone networks have also benefited from speed acceleration, as they are now able to transmit 100G optical services and 400G internet protocol services.
