Feature Issue of Applied Optics

Imaging Systems and Applications 2021

Applied Optics welcomes submissions to a feature issue on "Imaging Systems and Applications 2021" in conjunction with the Imaging and Applied Optics Congress, which will take place in a virtual format on 19-23 July 2021. Whereas meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit their work, the feature issue is open to all contributions in related areas.

This special issue will capture state-of-the-art aspects in unique light gathering optics, image sensor architectures and technology, on and off chip digital image processing, and methods for compression, storage, transmission, and utilization. The included articles will highlight leading-edge uses of imaging systems in consumer imaging, automotive and drone imaging, photography and digital cinematography capture and projection, remote sensing, microscopy, invasive and non-invasive surgery, and airborne and astronomical observations and imaging.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advances in microscopic imaging
  • Imaging for autonomous vehicles
  • New concepts in biomedical imaging
  • Imaging sensors for mobile computing and AR/VR applications
  • Spectral imaging systems
  • Novel imaging optics
  • Neuromorphic and asynchronous imaging systems
  • Image segmentation and understanding
  • Image compression and resolution enhancement
  • Target recognition and tracking
  • Industrial and visual inspection approaches
  • Two- and Three-dimensional image reconstruction
  • Optimization of imaging systems for machine learning applications

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journals. The standard Applied Optics publication charges will apply to all published articles. To be eligible for publication, an expanded conference paper needs to add value to the original conference proceedings and the conference paper number must be included in the cover letter at submission. Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Applied Optics and submit through Prism's manuscript submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue on Imaging Systems and Applications.
