Abstract
Optical spatial filtering techniques for pattern detection and several methods of increasing the discrimination between similar patterns are described. The use of high signal spectrum-to-reference beam intensities is found to be the most useful of these methods, and the properties of filters of alphanumeric characters made in this way are compared with linear filters.
