Abstract

Chemically deposited lead selenide detectors have excellent detectivities in the 1-μ to 4.8-μ region even when operated at room temperature. Recent improvements in processing have yielded D* (4.0 μ, 10 kc/sec, 1) greater than 1 × 1010 cm(cps)½/W at 300°K. Performance data for these detectors are presented in this paper covering an operating temperature range of 256°K to 373°K. The high level of detectivity, short time constant (<3 μsec), and high-temperature storage capability attest to the superiority of these detectors for use in the 3.3-μ to 4.8-μ region when little or no cooling is available.
