Integrated optic grating-coupler-based optical head

Abstract

An integrated optic grating-coupler-based optical recording head that contains fewer components and is easier to align than a conventional bulk-optics-based optical head is presented. Exemplary rf signals, radial tracking, and focus error signals obtained with the head are presented. The integration of the grating head on a single coupler on a single substrate is proposed, using a grating to tapered film waveguide.
