Accuracy of photon correlation measurements on nonergodic samples

Abstract

Three different photon correlation methods are used to obtain the dynamic structure factor of nonergodic samples, such as glasses or gels. These methods are compared in terms of their statistical accuracies and applicabilities. The scheme suggested by Pusey and van Megen [ Phys. A 157, 705 ( 1989)] appears to be the most efficient one, but it is restricted to Gaussian light with a completely frozen nonergodic component.
