Aging of plastic scintillating fibers

Abstract

We have measured the rate of natural aging on a sample of plastic scintillating fibers that were not exposed to any adverse environment. The measurements were performed with a radioactive source that bombarded the fibers only during the period of measurement and with a readout that consisted of photomultipliers connected to scalars. We normalized the output rate by using a Čerenkov radiation-induced monitor.
