Abstract

John Cocke led the team that developed IBM’s 801 computer, the first to use the RISC architecture. The 801 prototype was handmade and Cocke hand-tied the circuit boards. His other accomplishments are reviewed in this short report, reprinted by permission from the 26 June 1990 edition of The New York Times, Business Day Section.
