Abstract
An optical processing system for the recognition and sorting of machine screws is presented. A theoretical analysis of the diffraction problem is detailed which provides a basis for selecting a set of features used in the sorting algorithm. These features are used to discriminate between screws based on their diameter and thread pitch.
