Abstract

Formulas for the transmitted component of a pile-of-plates polarizer are derived in terms of the angle of incidence, the index of refraction, and the number of (transparent) plates for singly and multiply reflected rays. Numerical results are discussed for one, two, five, and ten plates and for indices of refraction of 1.5170, 1.5180, 1.5725, 1.6210, and 2.0060.
