Abstract
Four basic types of optical system are described which are suitable for precision solar simulation where the collimation angle is precisely held to 32 min of arc. Maximum beam diameters possible with each type of system are given, and the optical requirements for all components are discussed in detail. Various light sources for solar simulation are considered in terms of maximum beam intensity and beam aperture. An approach to beam homogenization is discussed as a possible future development.
