Spectrostratoscope: A Balloon-Borne Solar Observatory

Not Accessible

Your library or personal account may give you access

Abstract

A balloon-borne solar reflector (aperture 30 cm, equivalent focal length 63 m) feeding a high-resolution grating spectrograph and a 0.5-Å -Lyot filter is described. The instrument will be guided with an accuracy of 0.1 sec of arc during an exposure time of up to 30 sec. The fine guidance system uses single granules on the solar surface as target. The total weight of the instrument will be less than 1 ton. It will supply simultaneous integrated light or -pictures of the sun, as well as high-resolution spectra of selected solar structures.
