Internal total reflection in monoaxial crystals

Abstract

Formulas to determine the limit angle of the total internal reflection in monoaxial birefringent crystals can be obtained. With these formulas the curves limiting the field of a Nicol prism were calculated; there is good agreement between calculated and experimental curves.
