Abstract

For optimizing the diffusion condition in the fabrication of planar microlenses, it is important to simulate the distributed-index formation process. In this paper, a variable transformation is proposed to simplify the concentration-dependent diffusion equation and to remove the instability occurring in the numerical calculation. By using the transformation, the relationship between index profile and diffusion time is made clear. As a result of calculation, it is found that the index profile can be close to that of a Luneburg lens if a suitable diffusion coefficient is chosen.
