Directional heat losses in radiometers

Abstract

The heat flow mechanism in thermopile-based electrically calibrated absolute radiometers has been investigated in axial as well as radial directions. Solutions for transient and for steady-state flow of heat and temperature distribution have been obtained. Error functions associated with directional losses have been calculated. It is shown that, due to the inherent difference in the two modes of heating, there is always an undervaluation of radiant power measured.
