Abstract

Performance of a Nd:glass unstable ring laser is discussed in relation to the size of the mode suppressing aperture and the spacing between the focusing elements. It is shown that the discrimination ratio of the two counterpropagating beams can be considerably increased by using appropriate nonconfocal geometries.
