Holographic interferometry on pipes: precision interpretation by least-squares fitting

Abstract

Holographic interferograms on pipes, cylinders, and tubes, subjected to static deformation and rigid body motion, have been fitted by a math model using least-squares fitting. Observed and theoretical fringe patterns are shown side by side, with fringe-by-fringe agreement. Loads applied to deform the samples were bending, torsion, pressure, and thermal expansion. The best-fit values of the model parameters constitute measurements of the loads and the rigid body motion.
