Abstract
A region capable of guiding light can be created by the refractive-index gradients in a radial flow nozzle. An earlier such lightguide had been found to have poor optical quality. A new lightguide has been built and tested. Reasonably good agreement was found between the calculated and observed shapes of the lightguiding regions. With the proper lightguide operating conditions and the input laser beam focused down to the TEM00 mode size and properly injected into the lightguide, the divergence angle of the output beam was found to approach that of the input beam.
