Planar-sectioned solar concentrators. 1: Polygon reflectors

Abstract

Arrangements of successive plane mirrors, based on a general geometrical optical algorithm, are used to generate a whole family of 2-D nonimaging planar-sectioned concentrators. Explicit relations are derived for generating reflectors employing elliptical, circular, and strip receivers. These concentrators are most suited for low- and intermediate-temperature applications. They are cheap and extremely simple to construct and can be tailored to fit receivers of any conceivable shape.
