Abstract

The differential equations, recursion formulas, and explicit formulas for the back, self-absorbed, and forward luminescences (b,e,f)x of phosphor layers are obtained for the p-layer and continuum models. The explicit formulas contain two natural luminescence constants (invariants) b and c; b is the back luminescence bx for x → ∞. The luminescence formulas of Hamaker and of Coltman et al. are a special case of the formulas here. The recursion and explicit formulas for layer-incidence properties, transfer functions, and luminescences are the same in the p-layer and continuum models.
