Abstract

An apparatus consisting of a Michelson interferometer and a high-resolution grating spectrometer has been set up in order to measure the dispersion in the vibration-rotation bands of gases. The influence of the imperfections of the interferometer and the slit-width is discussed. The instrumental corrections in a single line with Lorentz shape have been calculated for the case of a triangular “slit function” for certain values of specific parameters, and the best experimental conditions have been determined. The first experimental results are given for the R(2) line of the first harmonic of HCl37.
