Abstract
A traveling wave CS2 Kerr cell has been used to shape optical pulses at 1.06 μm. The rise time of ~20 psec reported here is possiile because the group velocities for electrical and optical pulses are equal in CS2 at 1.06 μm. An electrical pulse generated by a light activated semiconductor switch is used to drive the device. High contrast jitter-free operation appears to be possible.
