Abstract
An accurate, highly polished, 35-cm diam stainless drum proved difficult when worked by hand to rid of zones. To facilitate smoothness a vacuum shoe was constructed. Its shape is the reverse of the convex drum. Now, if abrasive paper is pulled across it, the paper will assume a straight line like the string on a bow. When pulled back against the concave shoe by vacuum and moved rapidly, this shape is maintained, And so we have an abrasive former.
