Speckle Contrast Investigation of Partially Coherent Beams Created by Random Complex Screens and Phase Screens

Abstract

Partially coherent beams are commonly modeled using either random complex screens or phase screens. In either approach, a limited number of screens results in a speckled beam profile. The speckle contrast measure is applied to Gaussian Schell-model beams developed with both approaches. We find speckle contrast reduces as the one over the square root of the number of screens used and the contrast using phase screens can be smaller than with complex screens.
