Development of Low Loss Robust Soft-glass Fiber Splices

Abstract

Standard splicing equipment has been used to produce low loss robust splices in chalcogenide and ZBLAN fibers. It is possible to splice silica to chalcogenide fibers but the joint requires gluing to ensure mechanical strength.
