Abstract
Reading is often one of the first visual tasks that is compromised when visual function is impaired. However, reading is a complex sensorimotor, cognitive, and even possibly eye- hand coordination in people with visual impairments. Psychophysics research has begun the process of understanding the visual function requirements and environmental conditions for reading with visual impairments. The hope is that this research will enhance the ability of clinicians and rehabilitation specialists to provide rehabilitation strategies for people with visual disabilities in reading.
